Risk factors of recurrent miscarriage

Abstract

The aim of the study was to identify clinical and anamnestic risk factors of recurrent miscarriage.

Research design: open independent retrospective study was conducted.

Material and methods. The study included 348 patients of reproductive age (average age – 36±3.3 years). The patients of the studied cohort were stratified into 2 groups: the main one (n=230) – with a verified diagnosis of recurrent miscarriage, having a history of ≥2 pregnancy losses, and the comparison group (n=118), which included women with realized fertility.

Results. Significant (p<0.05) clinical and anamnestic risk factors for recurrent miscarriage were: age over 35 years (OR 1.15; 95% CI 1.097–1.22), obesity (OR 10.7; 95% CI 2.36–48.7), chronic anemia (OR 5.7; 95% CI 2.61–12.96), (OR 4.0; 95% CI 1.30–12.84), low body mass index (OR 4.5; 95% CI 1.60–13.06).

Conclusion. Rational consideration of these factors determines the direction of preventive measures in women at risk in order to improve reproductive outcomes.

Keywords: recurrent miscarriage; risk factors; anemia; hypothyroidism; obesity
