Vulvar lichen sclerosus: modern approaches to diagnosis and treatment
AbstractThe problem of vulvar lichen sclerosus remains a little-studied area in gynecology. There is no single generally accepted theory of the pathogenesis of this disease, as well as a clear algorithm for treating patients. For a long time, this pathology was considered the prerogative of menopausal and postmenopausal women, but over the past decades, there has been a trend of its “rejuvenation”. At the same time, the high risk of malignancy of vulvar lichen sclerosus, which ranges from 10 to 35%, is of great concern. This review presents current data on the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of vulvar lichen sclerosus, which will be useful both for obstetrician-gynecologists and for doctors of related specialties.
