Induction of labor: focus on efficiency and safety (review of world data)

Abstract

The aim of this article was to study modern methods of effective and safe cervical preparation prior to induction of labour. An analysis and review of 40 literature sources on various aspects of induced labor was carried out: frequency of their use in the world, methods for successful and safe induction of labor, the important role of prostaglandins in cervical ripening and labor induction. Particular attention has been given to intravaginal therapeutic system usage which is containing 10 mg of controlled-release dinoprostone for cervical preparation. The authors indicated advantages of using this form of dinoprostone. New lines of research are also proposed, expanding available indications for use of vaginal prostaglandin E2 (reflecting the efficacy and safety of its use).
