Assessment of the fetal condition in childbirth: contradictions and prospects

Abstract

In the last decade, there has been an exponential, sometimes unjustified increase in the frequency f cesarean section (CS), which reduces the reproductive potential of the population.

According to statistics, in countries with the highest frequency of emergency abdominal delivery, the main indication for surgery is fetal distress detected on cardiotocography (CTG). However, the analysis showed the absence of clear criteria and the presence of bias of colleagues in the interpretation of CTG results. This review presents modern methods for assessing the condition of the fetus in childbirth, allowing to optimize perinatal outcomes and avoid unjustified CS.
