Method for prediction of macrosomy in pregnant women with obesity

Abstract

Macrosomia is an urgent problem of obstetrics at the present stage in the context of an obesity pandemic, which entails serious medical and social consequences. It is important for the practitioner to predict this condition in a pregnant woman. The aim of this work is to develop a method for predicting macrosomia in obese pregnant women. In the blood serum of 180 women of reproductive age, the content of leptin, a soluble leptin receptor, was determined, and the index of free leptin was calculated. An imbalance of adipokines in the blood serum of women with varying degrees and types of obesity was revealed. In the serum of obese pregnant women, leptin and soluble leptin receptor are inversely correlated to each other. With the android type of morbid obesity (grade III), the highest leptin values and the lowest soluble leptin receptor values, while the free leptin index exceeds 500 U, which characterizes leptin resistance. A method for predicting macrosomia in obesity in pregnant women has been developed. If the value of the free leptin index is >500 U in pregnant women with android type of obesity, the formation of macrosomia is predicted. The risk of developing macrosomia in pregnant women with android obesity is 2.7 times higher than in women with normal body weight. The method for predicting macrosomia in obese pregnant women can be used to stratify the risk of complications for the mother and the fetus.
