Psycho-emotional health and quality of life of patients with external genital endometriosis

Abstract

Background. Endometriosis takes the second place in the structure of gynecological morbidity, which in turn naturally had a negative impact on the reproductive health of women. The recurrence rate of endometriosis after surgical treatment is 6.4% after 2 years, 10% after 3 years and 30.9% after 8 years.

The aim of this work is to evaluate and improve the results of surgical treatment and the quality of life in patients with external genital endometriosis (EGE).

Material and methods. To solve the problems posed in this work, 130 patients with external genital endometriosis were examined after surgical treatment. All patients after surgery were divided into 2 groups, depending on the degree of spread of endometriosis: group I (n=71) are patients with I, II degree of EGE spread and group II (n=59) of a patient with III, IV degree of EGE spread. Then, in each group, sexual functions and quality of life were evaluated using special scales and questionnaires.

Results. When analyzing the severity of pain according to VAS assessment, the data of the representatives of the selected groups do not differ and fluctuate around 5 points (5.17±2.87), which corresponds to moderate pain. We did not find a correlation between the severity of pain and the degree of spread of OGE. In the studied groups, the relative weight of the development of anxiety is rather high: 42.9% suffered from manifestations of reactive anxiety and 35.3% - from personal anxiety. A high level of depressive and anxiety states was noted, while in Group II with severe stages of EGE these indicators are significantly higher (64.4 versus 24.8%). In the personality profiles of patients in group II, a tendency toward the psycho-atsenic profile of the personality is noticeable.

Conclusion. The data obtained indicate the relevance of this problem, the need for a differentiated approach to this category of patients, as well as the presence of many unresolved issues that require further study.
