Management of genitourinary syndrome of menopause in female patients with pre-existing estrogen-dependent cancers of the reproductive system

Abstract

The aim of the study was to present basic clinical research data based on the current evidence about anatomic and physiological changes in genitourinary tract in conditions of estrogen deficiency and principles of management of genitourinary syndrome of menopause in female patients with pre-existing estrogen-dependent cancers of the reproductive system.

Material and methods. Russian and foreign sources dealing with prevalence, pathogenesis, and treatment methods for vaginal atrophy in patients with iatrogenic menopause were reviewed.

Results. In this article modern terminology, data on the etiopathogenesis, clinical manifestations and principles of non-hormonal therapy of genitourinary menopausal syndrome and vulvovaginal atrophy in women with pre-existing estrogen-dependent cancers of the reproductive system plus clinical examples are given.
