Correction of folate status - problems and prospects in the Russian Federation

Abstract

Reproductive health of women is one of the priority directions of Healthcare development in the Russian Federation, as the mother's health ensures the health of children, the health of the young generation of Russia, the health of the country's population. The data of world statistics show a high incidence of congenital anomalies of fetal development and its dependence on adverse social, environmental factors, including folate deficiency. Folate metabolism, the main causes and mechanisms of folate-deficiency states in women of reproductive age and in pregnant women, complications of pregnancy in the development of folate-deficient conditions in the mother are widely represented in the world Literature. Insufficient folate cycle, accompanied by the development of folate deficiency in the body can be due to inadequate intake of B9 with food, due to malabsorption, as well as specific mutations of MTGFR 677TT, leading to a folate cycle disruption and development of hyperhomocysteinemia. The clinical effectiveness of two forms of folate has been compared: inactive form - folic acid and active - metafolin. The use of Vitamin B9 during pregnancy is regulated by the Order of the Ministry of Health of Russia No. 572n. Studies of foreign and domestic authors suggest that the introduction of the rules of pre-conceptual training of women of reproductive age in the Russian Federation, genetic screening for the detection of mutations among the population of the Russian Federation will ensure sufficient saturation of the body with folates and effective prevention of not only VLF, but other complications of pregnancy. It will significantly improve the quality of medical care for the population of the country and improve the health of the population.
