Prediction and prevention of pregnancy (gestation) complications. Is it possible?

Abstract

Background. The results of reported data of Russian Federal State Statistics Service (FSSS) on the course of pregnancy, childbirth and perinatal outcomes over the past 10 years are hardly comforting. About 40% of women carry a pregnancy and give birth physiologically. Extragenital and genital diseases occur among 58.7-75.3% of pregnant women, which undoubtedly affects the course of gestation and causes numerous complications. Approximately 0.5% of newborns are born with congenital disorder and often it leads to disability of the child. Of particular importance is the lack of basic micronutrients (folic acid, iron, etc.) due to a lack of diet or chronic diseases to women.

Aim - to analyze modern scientific publications on the prediction and prevention of major pregnancy complications.

Material and methods. International reviews over the past 15 years from PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE, Cochrane databases, which included a series of cases and registers on various aspects of predicting and preventing major pregnancy complications.

Conclusion. Prediction and prevention of pregnancy complications and adverse perinatal outcomes are the basis of pregravid preparation. Nutritional support is an important step in the periconceptional period. The use of vitamin-mineral complexes (folic acid, iron, etc.) improves the health of women, which contributes to the normal course of pregnancy and the birth of healthy children.
