Istmiko-cervical insufficiency: prevalence and clinical and anamnestic features

Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of cervical insufficiency (CI) in women of the Kemerovo region and to evaluate the clinical and historical features of these patients.

Material and methods. It was cross-sectional study. The study included 5205 pregnant women in the period of 18-21 weeks. All patients underwent transvaginal ultrasonography. Criteria for the diagnosis of CI were shortening the length of the cervix of less than 25 mm and/or dilatation of the cervical canal more than 10 mm.

Results. The study revealed that the prevalence of CI in women of the Kemerovo region was 17.3 per 1000 women. At the same time, 60% of patients were asymptomatic, 18.8% had a history of surgical treatment of the cervix, 16.7% miscarriage for more than 14 weeks, 10% - premature labor.

Conclusions. Thus, the study showed a high prevalence of cervical insufficiency in the Kemerovo region, the main risk factors were surgical treatment of cervical diseases and premature birth and late miscarriages in history.
