Menopausal symptoms and sleep disorders in women: possibilities of alternative therapy

Abstract

The aim of the study was to analyze the literature data on the problem of pathogenesis and alternative therapy of sleep disorders and symptoms that occur in women during the menopausal transition and in postmenopausal women.

Material and methods. With the purpose of analysis implementation, research for foreign and domestic publications in the international citation system Pubmed, published over the past 15 years was made.

Results. The concepts of origin and reciprocal influences of menopausal symptoms and sleep disorders in women in menopause are summarized; data from studies in which effectiveness of menopausal symptoms and sleep disorders treatment with help of melatonin, phytoestrogens and micronutrients was investigated are systematized. Relevance of alternative medications combined application for adequate effect not only on vasomotor symptoms of menopausal syndrome, but also in relation to other problems associated with aging is noted.

Conclusion. Sleep disorders in menopausal transition and postmenopausal periods are only partially dependent on estrogen deficiency. Necessity for their correction is a result from quality of life considerable reduction, redoubling of other menopausal disorders and an increase in cardiometabolic risk in women with sleep disorders.
