New opportunities in treatment of vaginal infections

Abstract

Background. One of the most pressing challenge of modern gynecology is pelvic inflammatory diseases (PID), which are leading to women's reproductive health problems. Leading factors that are predisposing to recidivation of PID include menstrual irregularities and vulvovaginitis. Elzhina is the first combination drug for vaginal infections topical treatment.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of combined antimicrobial agent Elzhina administration for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis and vaginal inflammatory diseases.

Material and methods. The study involved 49 patients (mean age 31.8±7.4 years) with vaginal infections, confirmed by clinical and laboratory data. Entry criteria were: verified diagnoses of bacterial vaginosis and vaginal inflammatory diseases of different etiology, as well as informed consent to participate in the study.

Results. The effectiveness of the drug was 96%. Its favorable tolerability was also noted. The recommended short (6 or 9 days) regimen contributes to patients' adherence to treatment with Elzhina.

Conclusion. Obtained data allow to recommend the medication for wide introduction in daily practice of obstetrics and gynecology doctor.
