Menopausal hormone therapy and non-gynecological cancer (neoplasms of the digestive organs)

Abstract

The aim of the study was to conduct system analysis of available research results on the possibility of menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) usage in patients who successfully completed treatment of malignant tumors of digestive organs.

Material and methods. The review includes data from foreign articles that were found in Pubmed and Medline databases and domestic articles that were posted on elibrary.ru over the past 20 years.

Results. The attained results allow to extend MHT prescription range in patients with malignant tumors of digestive organs in past medical history. This study is the latest in series of few efforts of clinicians to justify MHT usage as one of for still imperfect oncology patient rehabilitation methods.

Conclusion. Patients who have successfully completed treatment of malignant tumors of digestive organs require the creation of special conditions of rehabilitation in order to preserve health and quality of life, and must be under close medical supervision. Adequately supported MHT prescription for the patients will allow to avoid complications associated with estrogen deficiency after surgical, radiological therapeutic interventions with systemic (cytostatic) treatment or without it
