Potential of PET-CT in assessing the results of treatment of locally advanced cervical cancer

Abstract

Cervical cancer (CC) is one of the most common female reproductive system cancers. Positron emission tomography center (PET center) allows to provide its high-technology diagnostics.

The aim of the study was to assess PET-CT capabilities in diagnosis of cervical cancer.

Material and methods. In Chelyabinsk Regional Clinical Oncology Center and Nuclear Medicine 59 patients with "regional cervical cancer (T2b-3bN0-1M0)" were examined with PET-CT in the period from January 2011 till June 2016.

Conclusion. PET-CT study should be recommended before surgical treatment. That will allow to diagnose metastatic lesion of paraaortally, paracaval lymph nodes and distant metastases to parenchymatous organs and bones.

Keywords:cervical cancer, multicomponent treatment of cervical cancer, possibilities of PET-CT
