Infertility in the era of obesity: epidemiology and methods of its overcoming

Abstract

Overweight and obesity are the main and extremely pertinent problem of medicine of the XXI century. According to the data of 2016, 39% of adults over 18 years (39% of men and 40% of women) suffer from overweight in the world, and about 13% of the adult population of the planet (11% of men and 15% of women) were obese. Obesity adversely affects the reproductive function of women. The main cause of infertility in obesity is chronic anovulation. Today for the treatment of infertile and obese patients assisted reproductive technologies are used. However obesity makes a big contribution in the unsuccessful attempts of in vitro fertilization, and it also significantly reduces live-birth following them. The results of the studies show that weight loss should be considered in overweight and obese women before the initiation of infertility treatment.
