Transmittal high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) abbreance of pregnant cancer of I-II stage as a method preventing development of infertility in men
Abstract
The aim of the study was to establish the possibility of treatment of prostate cancer of I-II stage by HIFU method without development of male infertility.
Material and methods. Observations were performed on 24 men 45-56 years before and after treatment in the urological department # 2 of the Regional Clinical Hospital # 2. Along with the clinical methods of examination (PSA level in serum, ultrasound and MRI of the prostate and pelvic organs, data of the histological analysis of the biopsy material), the questionnaire questionnaire subjectively estimated the international index of erectile function, the index of the quality of life assessment. Statistical analysis of the results of the study was carried out using the following programs Statistica 6.0 for Windows of Stat Soft, Inc. After establishing the normal distribution of the variant, using significant differences in the comparison of the mean values in paired comparisons, the Student's t-test was used for p<0.05.
Results. In all patients after treatment with HIFU, clinical signs of prostate cancer disappeared. Reduction of PSA, tumor volume. At the same time part of the prostate gland is preserved and ejaculation was possible. Erectile function and quality of life met the standard. During 5 years of observation, recurrence of the disease was not observed.
