Epigenetics in gynecology and oncogynecology: WIF and reality

AbstractCurrently, epigenetic approaches in diagnostics and treatment of pretumor and tumor diseases of the female reproductive system are becoming increasingly widespread and recognized. Literature data and authors' own data, which provide evidence of the diagnostic and prognostic clinical significance of WIF-1 gene promoter methylation status in complex treatment of cervix uteri intraepithelial lesions as well as uterine myoma are discussed in the review. Administration of innovative drugs with epigenetic DNA demethylation activity that restore tumor suppressor functions of WIF-1 gene is a promising new approach in pathogenetic therapy of proliferative diseases of the female reproductive system (as part of their complex treatment).
