Metabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus: how to overcome the risks of unfavorable concequences?

AbstractIn spite of sustained growth of Metabolic Syndrome (МС) and Diabetes Mellitus (DM) morbidity worldwide, final effective strategies for Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) prophylaxis and decreasing its short and longtime unfavorable risks for the mother and her newborn are not worked out. GDM screening is difficult even today. Search of new biomarkers which make prognosis for GDM during the I trimester of pregnancy real is being continued. This review aimed at the major associated with GDM problems takes the recent data from PubMed, Medline and ISI Web of Knowledgeе. Epigenetic mechanisms of obesity and DM pandemic, questions for individual risk assessment, prophylaxis and screening for GDM are being reviewed.
