Maternal morbidity and gestation: is there a balance between risks and safety?

AbstractIn spite of significant decreasing of maternal mortality (ММ) nowadays, maternal morbidity index does not demonstrate any tendency to decreasing. Maternal disorders take the first place as the major reason of ММ in developed countries. This review covers the results of past investigations devoted to the problem of maternal diseases during pregnancy; it shows the main risk factors of poor maternal and neonatal outcome; new aspects of differential diagnosis and therapeutic approach to headache, hypertensive disorders, venous thromboembolism, thyroid disorders, system inflammatory disease, epilepsy, infectious disease, sepsis, atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome.
