The role of hormonal disbalance in the carcinogenesis of tumors of the female reproductive system

Abstract

Objective. According to modern concepts, the main factor that stimulates cells of estrogen dependent organs to pathological growth is not the level of estrogen, and the disbalance of its metabolites, having different ability to activate cell proliferation. Experiments proved the need to maintain such a balance between these metabolites, in which the concentration of 2-ОНЕ1 exceed 16а-ОНЕ1 at least 2 times or more. The ratio 2-ОНЕ1/16а-ОНЕ1 is a biomarker, a reliable diagnostic criterion in determining the risk for development of estrogen-dependent tumors.

Material and methods. 90 women in postmenopause without anamnestic data about the presence of cancer, 60 patients with breast cancer, 60 patients with endometrial cancer, 67 patients with malignant epithelial ovarian tumors was determined the individual concentrations of 2-hydroxyestrone (2-ОНЕ1) and 16α-hydroxyestrone (16а-ОНЕ1) in urine.

Results. Most patients with cancer of endometrial, ovarian and breast cancer, especially in the presence of the metabolic syndrome, estrogen metabolism focuses on the synthesis of carcinogenic metabolites.

Conclusion. From obtained results follows that the need to lock on the specified key path pathological proliferation in hormone dependent organs.
