Expert comment: Premature birth and using prospects of progesterone for their prevention

Abstract

Premature birth is the most frequent cause of perinatal mortality and illnesses in newborn.

That is why early detection of women at high risk of premature birth and creation of effective complication prevention strategy is so important.

A number of studies have shown that universal cervical length screening and treatment with vaginal progesterone together represent safe, economic and optimum premature birth prevention strategy, as compared with standard therapeutic approach.
